CODRONE – Case study

CODRONE is a Danish startup specializing in autonomous drones for inspection and surveillance, operating without the need for pilots.

From idea to first commercial drone

During the development of their first commercial drone, Aluco, engineers quickly realized that traditional manufacturing methods could not meet the demanding design requirements.
They needed complex geometries, high durability, reduced weight, and as few parts as possible. On this journey, Prototal supported CODRONE with prototypes and drone production.

Design freedom for lighter drones

Thanks to industrial 3D printing, CODRONE achieved a new level of design freedom that allowed them to:

  • Integrate complex geometries for electronic components into a protective and structural shell.
  • Reduce drone weight by removing unnecessary material, increasing flight time.
  • Minimize the number of components to be produced and assembled after manufacturing.
  • From prototype to final drone

“Beyond the functional advantages, we also save development time throughout the process. With industrial 3D printing, we can move directly from prototype to final drone production, since the quality and finish of the components delivered by Prototal are extremely high.” — Kristian Husum Laursen, CEO & Co-founder
